Legislation establishing the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Registry was signed into law in May, 1993. Data collection officially began in 1996.
Information is available in aggregate form on individuals who sustained a brain injury and who stayed in the hospital for more than one day and on individuals who died from traumatic brain injury. Patients seen in emergency rooms who were sent home the same day or whose length of stay was less than 24 hours are not included in the Traumatic Brain Injury Registry.
Data with personal identifiers are not released to the public in any form. Data are available in aggregate form approximately six months after each quarter and year-end and are available at no cost.
Our Traumatic Brain Injury Registry Summary* has detailed information on the data elements collected and available reports.
